HEY FOOD LOVERS AND TOURISTS! By Jinan Harb If you ever find yourself traveling to the Netherlands. Amsterdam is a really fun, hip, and educational place to visit! Something definitely worth seeing is the Van Gogh museum, where you can view his paintings dating from the 1800s. Pictured above, is Vincent Van Gogh's last self portrait, which he painted in Paris in 1888. Did you know that Van Gogh was very resourceful and often recycled his materials and canvases? Experts have analyzed his pieces (with the help of x-rays analysis) and have found that he would scrape off the paint layers when he was unsatisfied with his work, and often created an entirely new masterpiece by reusing his old pieces! If one thing is for sure, it is that Van Gogh never lacked passion. He would often paint outside whenever he could. Even if it meant, that he had to endure rainy and windy weather in order to paint a picture. Below, you can see the texture and sand in the detail of his piece. It is thought that not only was sand mixed into the paintings because of the wind, but that Van Gogh also may have mixed sand into the paintings in order to achieve a rough texture. One last picture from my adventure in Amsterdam!!
Below, is a picture of my travel buddy, Jordan Wells who is also SDSU's Sustainability Commissioner for the 2013-2014 school year, and myself. This picture was taken by the canals which flow all throughout the city!!
