SDSU Dining: November
Campus-Grown Sustainability Tour Foodies was fortunate to be able to partner with SDSU Dining this past month. A group of us got to tour SDSU's The Garden and see their Garden to Table cooking style. The event started with getting to know the Chefs, and then touring their different garden areas and even seeing there 40 aeroponic towers that yield over 1,760 heads of leafy greens. At the end of the event we got to enjoy the amazing food offered at The Garden for free. From a salad bar, pizza and pasta station, burger bar, omelet station, and dessert station. The food was delicious, go check out The Garden! |
Cucina Migrante: October
Farm 2 Fork Social Cooking Class Walking down the streets of the Little Italy Farmer's Market, Chef Francesco described the different vendors and local farmers. We got to sample different foods and make a recipe off the top of our heads, buying the ingredients fresh at the market. Then we got to go back to Chef Francesco's house and help make a three course meal. We got to prep the dishes and be Sous Chefs. We made our own bruschetta, then our main dish a pesto pasta with fresh peppers as a side dish, and lastly the dessert Panna Cotta. We had so fun interacting with Chef Francesco and learning about Sicilian style of Italian cooking! |
Maestoso: Pasta Making Class
October Restaurant of the Month This month we visited Maestoso an authentic contemporary Italian restaurant in Hillcrest. We met with Chef Marco Maestoso and he taught us how to make the perfect gnocchi. Gnocchi is made out of potatoes, flour, eggs, and a big pinch of salt. However, during our class Chef Maestoso explained how we could use all different types of powders and seasonings in our dough to give the gnocchi extra flavor. We got to compete against each other and the chef himself and make our very own gnocchi. The food was delicious and the experience brought us right to Italy. We can't wait for our next restaurant of the month! |

Punch Bowl Social!
September Restaurant of the Month We had such an amazing time at our first restaurant of the month. The location was centered in downtown San Diego in a big warehouse! We had the opportunity to sample some delicious appetizers, and play some games from Jenga, Darts, Ping Pong, to even a Karaoke room filled with throwback songs we all got to sing along too. Thank you for everyone who came and made it such a successful event. Look out for our next restaurant of the month... |
