By: Adriel Reveles La Querencia, a restaurant located in Tijuana about 5 minute drive from the U..S. border. La Querencia is not your typical Mexican restaurant, carne asada and fish tacos! When one stands outside this restaurant, one might think it is a modern style facade of Mexican restaurant. Inside it is more of rustic cabin with trophy animals such as ducks and deer with a modern twist.

By: Adriel Reveles A couple of years ago, I remember going to a very unique restaurant with my parents for my birthday. This was a restaurant in downtown San Diego called Rei Do Gado, Portuguese for King of cattle. Rei Do Gado is a churrasqueria style steakhouse. The churrasqueria style originated in southern Brazil in a region called Rio Grande Do Sul by several centuries ago by the gauchos (cowboys). One might ask what is this concept like? Imagine juicy and tender cuts of meat in skewers slowly roasting over mesquite flaming fire. There was such a broad list of meat skewers to choose from. The list usually includes cupim (zebu hump), picanha (sirloin steak cap), turkey breast wrapped in bacon, lamb leg, linguiça (Portuguese sausage), and many others. HEY FOOD LOVERS AND TOURISTS! By Jinan Harb If you ever find yourself traveling to the Netherlands. Amsterdam is a really fun, hip, and educational place to visit! Something definitely worth seeing is the Van Gogh museum, where you can view his paintings dating from the 1800s. Pictured above, is Vincent Van Gogh's last self portrait, which he painted in Paris in 1888. Did you know that Van Gogh was very resourceful and often recycled his materials and canvases? Experts have analyzed his pieces (with the help of x-rays analysis) and have found that he would scrape off the paint layers when he was unsatisfied with his work, and often created an entirely new masterpiece by reusing his old pieces! If one thing is for sure, it is that Van Gogh never lacked passion. He would often paint outside whenever he could. Even if it meant, that he had to endure rainy and windy weather in order to paint a picture. Below, you can see the texture and sand in the detail of his piece. It is thought that not only was sand mixed into the paintings because of the wind, but that Van Gogh also may have mixed sand into the paintings in order to achieve a rough texture. One last picture from my adventure in Amsterdam!!
Below, is a picture of my travel buddy, Jordan Wells who is also SDSU's Sustainability Commissioner for the 2013-2014 school year, and myself. This picture was taken by the canals which flow all throughout the city!! |
