Hey there Foodies! With the upcoming Starbucks Student Union Signature Drink challenge it's time to get creative and start a buzz about Foodies! What better way to recognize our amazing organization than to have one of our very own members' original drink featured for the entire semester? I know what you're thinking... But how will I ever be as good as a barista? Easy! I'll give you the basics and you mix and match to make your drink the best! There are four basic types of drinks at Starbucks. -Espresso Beverages: can be hot or iced, contain shots of espresso, milk and flavored syrup may be added. Seasonal favorites are usually espresso beverages and many come with whipped cream and an extra topping. YUM! -Brewed Coffee: can be hot or iced, this is where your iced coffee comes in. Unlike the espresso beverages, this drink is primarily brewed coffee that has been chilled. A smaller amount of milk is added and of course, your choice of flavored syrup. -Shaken Beverages: The iced teas come in three varieties: black, green and passion. These can be made into a tea/lemonade and sweetened if you like. There are also refreshers, this is a green-coffee-extract juice shaken with ice and freeze-dried fruit. You can choose from lime, orange or berry. -Blended beverages: The infamous Frappuccino, a blended beverage that can be made with or without caffeine and topped with whipped cream. There are also the smoothies, in orange mango or strawberry, blended with a whole banana, protein, ice and milk. Alright you get it, it's not your first time at Starbucks. From here you know what type of drink you want to start with as your base, time to add the syrups, toppings and make it your own! You can choose from an array of syrups like vanilla, toffee-nut, hazelnut, caramel, cinnamon dolce, mocha, white mocha, peppermint, classic, raspberry as well as, sugar-free varieties. What type of milk? Whole milk, 2 percent, nonfat, soy, half&half or even heavy whipping cream. Sauces: Caramel, hazelnut or mocha. Toppings: whipped cream, cinnamon dolce sprinkles, cinnamon, nutmeg, chocolate powder or vanilla powder. Dry inclusions: matcha (green tea) powder, vanilla bean powder, java chips, freeze-dried lime wheels, freeze-dried orange slices and freeze-dried blackberries. The possibilities are truly endless! Bonus tips! For drinks that are iced and include one of the thicker sauces l recommend you ask for it shaken, it distributes the sauce throughout the drink so it doesn't sit at the bottom of your cup. Want to blend a drink that doesn't usually come blended? Ask your barista to add a couple pumps of the crème base and blend away! Good luck Foodies, I can't wait to see what you come up with! Comment below if you have any questions. Stay hungry! -
